Texas Rangers All-Star Josh Jung is aiming for a strong comeback in 2025 after being limited to just 46 games this past season due to a wrist injury.
Jung recently underwent a second surgery on his right wrist, which he fractured just four games into the 2024 season. This procedure was an ECU tendon release to address lingering issues.
“After consulting with several medical experts, it was collectively decided that Josh should have the release surgery now to ensure he has a normal offseason and is fully ready for Spring Training,” said Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young in a statement to Rangers.com. “Other options left too much uncertainty, and this will provide clarity on his recovery timeline. After three to four weeks of recovery, Josh will start rebuilding strength in his wrist and resume regular offseason activities.”
During his shortened season, Jung posted a .264/.298/.421 slash line, hitting 13 extra-base hits, including seven home runs. He started the season strong, going 7-for-17 with a double, triple, and two home runs in the first four games.
Jung was sidelined after being hit by a pitch on April 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays, which caused ongoing discomfort around the surgical site. Although he returned on July 29, he struggled to regain his 2023 form and was eventually shut down when the pain returned.
In 2023, Jung earned All-Star honors and finished fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. He hit 23 home runs, 25 doubles, and had a .781 OPS that year.
**Updates on Evan Carter and Adolis Garcia**
Jung wasn’t the only player the Rangers provided injury updates on.
Rookie outfielder Evan Carter underwent an ablation procedure to remove scar tissue after a back strain ended his 2024 season on May 28. The 22-year-old played in just 45 games this year. Carter made his MLB debut in September 2023 and played a pivotal role in the Rangers’ World Series victory, hitting .300 with a .917 OPS in 17 postseason games.
Additionally, outfielder Adolis Garcia has started his eight-week rehab for a left patella tendon strain. The two-time All-Star struggled throughout 2024, slashing .224/.284/.400 with a 94 OPS+.
All three players are expected to be fully ready for Spring Training.
After winning the World Series in 2023, the Rangers finished the 2024 season with a 78-84 record, missing the playoffs.
