BREAKING NEWS: Auburn Should Sting as Coleman Flourishes in Texas

Texas quarterback Arch Manning recently spoke glowingly about wide receiver Cam Coleman, who transferred from Auburn to Texas in January. Manning described Coleman as an elite talent who works hard and has a strong desire to improve comments that should sting Auburn fans when they consider what they witnessed during his time on the Plains.

The Cam Coleman who showed up in Austin for the Texas Longhorns wasn't the same one who showed up in Auburn with the Tigers

Reporter Jake Crain offered some telling context, noting that Coleman rarely brought that same intensity to practice during his nearly two seasons under Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze. Crain suggested this lack of effort wasn’t isolated, pointing to Auburn’s repeated failures in high-stakes moments as a pattern that reflected the program’s culture rather than coincidence.

That said, the article stops short of placing all the blame on Freeze. Coleman’s renewed commitment in Austin doesn’t automatically indict his former coaching staff. Several Auburn players chose to stay when new coordinator Alex Golesh joined the program, suggesting the environment wasn’t universally toxic. No matter what was offered, however, Coleman had no interest in returning.

Part of Coleman’s decision may simply come down to personal growth and a desire for a fresh start. His original commitment to Texas A&M showed he had always been drawn to the state of Texas. This offseason the Aggies came calling again, but the opportunity to play alongside Manning ultimately tipped the scales toward Texas.

Coleman himself acknowledged that leaving Auburn wasn’t a difficult choice. Rather than pointing fingers at any one person, it may be that he simply recognized staying close to home was holding him back regardless of who was coaching the Tigers.
