Major Breaking News: With Bohm Slumping, Philadelphia Should Give Sosa More Time

The Philadelphia Phillies are facing a growing question about their third base situation as they work to find consistency early in the season. While the team has shown promise in certain areas, their performance has been somewhat disappointing given the lofty expectations surrounding them.

On the pitching side, things look relatively solid. Their rotation is still waiting on ace Zack Wheeler, who continues his rehab assignment in the minors, but the staff has managed well in his absence. The bullpen has been a particular bright spot, with Jhoan Duran leading the way.

The bigger problem lies in the lineup, and more specifically at third base. Alec Bohm has struggled badly, posting a .155/.231/.224 slash line with just one home run through 15 games. Though he has driven in 10 runs, his overall offensive contributions have been a drag on the team.

This has opened the door for Edmundo Sosa to take on a larger role. Sosa proved himself capable in 2025, hitting .276 with 11 home runs in 89 games while also posting a higher OPS than Bohm that year. His three-run home run on Tuesday, while starting at third base, may give the Phillies more reason to keep him in the lineup regularly.

While Sosa isn’t a marquee player, his track record suggests he could be a more productive option at the position than Bohm has been so far this season.
