“Rookie Sensation” – Chiefs’ WR Shines on Field and Social Media Amidst Eagles Shoutout…

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice responded to a shoutout from former All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay of the Philadelphia Eagles after a recent loss.

Slay jokingly expressed concern about getting sued due to Rice’s impressive performance on the field, where a fan-captured video showed the rookie breaking Slay’s ankles and making a significant play that contributed to the Chiefs’ first touchdown.

Although Rice didn’t publicly comment on Slay’s praise, he shared Slay’s comment on his personal X account. Known for his low-key social media presence during his rookie year, Rice displayed maturity in handling the attention.

The social media interaction originated from an Eagles fan’s viral video of Slay mimicking the ‘Tomahawk Chop’ after the game, receiving cheers from the remaining Philadelphia fans in the stands.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy discussed Rice’s development during a press conference after the loss to the Eagles. Nagy highlighted Rice’s ability to grasp route concepts and acknowledged his physical running style and strong hands. The coach expressed the team’s intention to increase Rice’s playing time and emphasized the importance of trust in the development process.

In the 2023 NFL season, Rice has quietly emerged as one of the top rookie wide receivers. Pro Football Focus ranks his receiving grade third among rookies, trailing behind Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams and Tank Dell of the Houston Texans. While Rice ranks eighth in yardage, this is attributed in part to his fewer targets compared to other rookies.

Despite fans’ eagerness for Rice to become the full-time WR1, the Chiefs traditionally take a gradual approach to developing wide receivers. Nevertheless, Rice’s performance suggests a promising future alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes, surpassing the achievements of previous Kansas City rookies in his position.
