Cincinnati Reds’ recent signing, catcher Luke Maile, has secured a one-year contract worth $3.5 million, ensuring that he won’t become a free agent following the World Series.
In this agreement announced on October 19, Maile is set to receive $3 million for the upcoming year, and there’s a $3.5 million option for 2025 available to the Reds, accompanied by a $500,000 buyout clause.
At 32 years old, Maile, who primarily served as a backup to Tyler Stephenson, recorded a batting average of .235 with six home runs and 25 runs batted in across 74 games during this season.
Throughout his career, Maile has maintained a batting average of .212, hitting 19 home runs and amassing 105 runs batted in while playing for Tampa Bay (2015-16), Toronto (2017-19), Milwaukee (2021), and Cleveland (2022). It’s worth noting that he missed the pandemic-shortened 2020 season due to a right index finger injury.
