Breaking News: Phillies Make Roster Move Ahead of Cubs Game

The Philadelphia Phillies are set to face the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, following a 5-1 defeat the previous day. Before the game, the team made a roster adjustment, calling up right-handed pitcher Alan Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley while sending fellow right-hander Seth Johnson back down to make room on the 26-man roster.

Rangel, now in his second year with Philadelphia, has been sharp this season, posting a 1.66 ERA across four starts in the minors the fourth-lowest mark in the International League. He appeared in five games last year, finishing with a 2.45 ERA. Johnson, on the other hand, has struggled in his three MLB seasons with the club, carrying an 8.68 ERA over 14 career appearances. Notably, this roster move used up Johnson’s last remaining minor league option.

Despite boasting a star-studded lineup featuring Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies have had a rough start to 2026. They currently sit at 8-14, placing them fourth in the NL East. On the road, they’ve gone 3-4 in seven games. After wrapping up their Chicago series, the team heads to Atlanta to take on the Braves the same team that just swept them at home over the weekend.
