Breaking: Two Potential Trade Partners have Readily Emerged for the Detroit Lions…

Two potential trade partners have emerged for the Detroit Lions if they decide to trade their first-round pick.

Despite some fans insisting that they wouldn’t trade their first-round pick in the 2024 draft, General Manager Brad Holmes hinted during a pre-draft press conference that they might consider it if the right opportunity arises.

Holmes emphasized the importance of doing what’s best for the team, even if it means disappointing some fans temporarily.

There are teams interested in acquiring a late first-round pick to secure a player with a coveted fifth-year option, possibly a quarterback. With the Lions holding the 29th overall pick, they could receive numerous trade offers on draft night.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein suggests that the Washington Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals are likely candidates for a draft trade with the Lions. This speculation is intriguing considering the history between the Lions and these teams.

Dave Sears, currently the Cardinals’ assistant general manager, previously served as the Lions’ director of college scouting. Coincidentally or not, after Sears joined Arizona, the Lions and Cardinals engaged in two trades during last year’s draft.

Similarly, Lance Newmark, who spent 26 seasons in the Lions’ player personnel department, recently joined the Commanders as their assistant general manager. Of note, the Commanders possess five picks between the 36th and 100th overall selections, which align with the value of the Lions’ 29th overall pick on certain draft pick value charts.

While pre-draft speculation will soon conclude, the Commanders and Cardinals appear to be the most suitable trade partners if the Lions opt to move out of the first round and these teams seek to move up.
