‘Amazing’ – Woolworths Cricket Blast Sets Record Numbers, Surpassing Expectations and Inspiring Youth Participation….

Woolworths Cricket Blast Program has achieved record-breaking numbers this season, witnessing a notable 31% increase in registrations nationwide.

A total of 66,186 kids have enrolled, surpassing last season’s 50,328 at the same period and exceeding the entire previous season’s participant count of 64,898.

The growth in female participation is particularly remarkable, with 17,842 girls registering compared to 11,713 last year, exceeding the previous season’s total of 17,814.

The surge in Woolworths Cricket Blast numbers is attributed to the stellar performances of Australia’s men’s and women’s teams, heightened interest in the Big Bash Leagues, and a comprehensive program review.

This review aimed to enhance program quality, expand outreach to new audiences, and improve experiences for participants and their families.

Initiatives included extending the program to more schools, increasing availability during school holidays, and expanding the number of local clubs delivering Blast programs.

Aligned with Australian Cricket’s five-year strategy to double the number of 5-12 year-olds playing cricket, Nielsen Sports research commissioned by Cricket Australia revealed that Woolworths Cricket Blast is perceived as the most attractive entry-level sports program for parents with children in this age group.

Of over 1500 respondents nationwide, 26% would consider enrolling their children in Woolworths Cricket Blast, with AFL’s Auskick program at 13% and basketball’s Aussie Hoops at 12%.

Woolworths Cricket Blast also garnered strong brand recognition, with 52% of parents aware of the program. Awareness among mothers has increased by 20% since December 2022.

Taj Bower from Perth was honored as the Woolworths Cricket Blaster of the Year at the Australian Cricket Awards for embodying the spirit of the game and teamwork. Taj will serve as an ambassador for the program in the coming year.

The Woolworths Community Fund, extending cricket to children who typically lack access to the game, further expands cricket’s reach. James Allsopp, CA Executive General Manager, Community and Capability, expressed delight at the program’s success and thanked Woolworths for their partnership, especially through the Woolworths Community Fund.

The collaborative efforts of the world champion teams, Big Bash Leagues, and dedicated program operators, volunteers, and schools have contributed to making Woolworths Cricket Blast an even more enjoyable experience for kids and families. The program’s recognition as an attractive option for parents underscores cricket’s enduring status as Australia’s national sport.
