Giants Has Chosen Vikings’ Defensive backs coach as Potential Defensive Coordinator perfect Replacement…

The New York Giants are actively expanding their pool of candidates in the quest for a new defensive coordinator, and the latest contender to emerge is Daronte Jones, the defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings. According to Tom Pelissero, the Giants engaged in an interview with Jones for the coveted position, a meeting that took place during the Senior Bowl held in Mobile, Alabama.

Daronte Jones, a seasoned 45-year-old coach, assumed the role of defensive coordinator for the National Team during the Senior Bowl, showcasing his leadership and strategic capabilities in a prominent setting. Jones has an extensive coaching history dating back to 2001 when he commenced his career. Noteworthy roles in his past include serving as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Bowie State from 2005 to 2009 and holding the position of defensive coordinator at LSU in 2021.

Within the NFL, Jones has traversed various coaching roles, contributing his expertise to multiple teams. He began as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2016 and 2017, maintaining a similar role with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, Jones assumed the position of defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings. After a brief departure, he rejoined the Vikings in 2022 as the defensive backs coach and ascended to the role of defensive pass game coordinator in 2023.

The Giants find themselves in the midst of an intensive search for a successor to Wink Martindale, their former defensive coordinator. However, recent developments have seen setbacks in their pursuit, as two potential candidates, Dennard Wilson and Bobby Babich, opted for alternative opportunities. Wilson secured the defensive coordinator position with the Tennessee Titans, while Babich received a promotion from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills, leaving the Giants with the ongoing task of identifying the ideal candidate to helm their defensive unit.
