F1 team boss was furious with strategists for messing up 23-year-old’s race in Abu Dhabi…

The team principal of the F1 racing team, AlphaTauri, Franz Tost, expressed his anger towards the team’s strategists for their decisions during Yuki Tsunoda’s race in Abu Dhabi.

AlphaTauri aimed to overcome a seven-point deficit to Williams for a seventh-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship. Tost, in an interview with F1 Insider, criticized the reliance on computer calculations over human instincts, which, according to him, cost Tsunoda the race.

Tost, a seasoned team boss who has played a crucial role in the careers of various Formula 1 drivers, including Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, was dissatisfied with the strategists’ decision to keep Tsunoda on track during the final race. Despite Tsunoda’s impressive performance and leading laps, the strategists’ reliance on their calculation programs led to him finishing two positions short of helping AlphaTauri surpass Williams.

Expressing his frustration, Tost emphasized the need to educate engineers of the computer generation, highlighting that common sense should take precedence over blind trust in numerical data. He recounted threatening to throw their laptops on the street during the race but clarified that it was his last race, and such actions won’t occur again.

Tost underscored the importance of making it clear to the “computer kids” that computers are tools, not the ultimate decision-makers. He stressed the significance of common sense, as people are the ones who program the systems based on which decisions are made.

Despite Tsunoda receiving praise for his outstanding performance, Tost believed that with better strategic decisions, he could have achieved even better results. AlphaTauri’s future looks intriguing as they strengthen their ties with Red Bull, positioning themselves to challenge teams like Williams and Alpine. Additionally, the driver situation is noteworthy, with both Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo eyeing potential opportunities, especially if Sergio Perez faces challenges securing a contract extension with Red Bull.
