Two NFL Teams In Competitive Chase of Bengals’ Offensive Coordinator for Head Coach Position…

Titans and Chargers Seek Bengals Offensive Coordinator Brian Callahan for Head Coach Position…

The Cincinnati Bengals have notably maintained stability in their coordinator roles over the past three seasons, despite making significant playoff runs. It’s common for coordinators from successful teams to attract interest for head coaching positions elsewhere, and this trend holds true for the Bengals.

Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan emerged as a sought-after candidate last offseason, and his desirability appears to have increased this time around. While the Carolina Panthers had already expressed interest in interviewing him, two more teams—the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers—are now considering him for their head coaching vacancies.

The Tennessee Titans recently parted ways with Mike Vrabel, creating an opening that they may want to fill with a more offensive-minded coach, likely looking to revamp their offense centered around quarterback Will Levis.

The Los Angeles Chargers present an appealing opportunity due to their talented quarterback Justin Herbert and an owner known for substantial investment in the team.

Callahan has been the sole offensive coordinator for Joe Burrow since the quarterback entered the NFL. Head coach Zac Taylor actively involves himself in the offensive play-calling, emphasizing a collaborative approach. It remains uncertain how much change would occur in this dynamic if Callahan were to move on.

Cincinnati’s success in reaching the Super Bowl and AFC Championship games has contributed to retaining their coordinators, but the increasing impatience of teams in the hiring process has turned it into a competitive scenario. Teams are wary of potentially missing out on their preferred candidates, turning the coaching carousel into a fast-paced game of musical chairs.

While coordinators can interview during the playoffs, there are limitations, and they cannot officially assume the head coaching role until their team is eliminated. The outcome of Callahan’s interviews remains to be seen, but it’s evident that he is in high demand during this coaching cycle.
