Nottingham Forest’s Renewed Pursuit of ‘La Liga Star’ Sparks Transfer Decisions on Forest’ Duo…

Nottingham Forest is reportedly displaying a heightened level of interest in securing the services of Cadiz winger Iván Alejo, according to sources.

The initial rumors regarding the Reds’ interest in the 28-year-old surfaced in 2022, coinciding with their preparations for the Premier League after a 23-year absence. At that time, Cadiz was allegedly seeking a transfer fee of at least 5 million euros (approximately £4.2 million), yet no agreement was reached, and Alejo did not make a move to the City Ground.

However, fresh reports from Spanish outlet El Mira suggest that Nottingham Forest has rekindled its pursuit of Alejo, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo purportedly exhibiting a “special interest” in acquiring the player. The publication asserts that the club is closely monitoring Alejo’s situation and highlights that his departure would pose a significant challenge for the La Liga side.

Alejo, who has contributed two assists in the current season, finds himself part of a struggling Cadiz team currently occupying the 18th position in the Spanish top-flight standings after 19 matches.

The versatile winger, capable of playing in midfield, began his football journey at Atletico Madrid as a youth player and subsequently moved on to Villarreal’s reserve squad. His career path included stints at Alcorcon, Eibar, and Getafe, with loan spells at Malaga and Cadiz before making a permanent switch to the latter three years ago.

In parallel transfer developments, Nottingham Forest has made decisions regarding two players, Alex Mighten and Hwang Ui-jo, who had embarked on loan spells away from the City Ground.

Mighten had joined Belgian side KV Kortrijk in September, accumulating 12 appearances, while Hwang had signed with Norwich City during the summer transfer window, making 18 appearances and scoring three goals. Unfortunately, Hwang’s season has been marred by injuries, and he is currently facing a six-week absence due to a hamstring injury.

As the January transfer window progresses, Forest is focusing on streamlining its squad, with loanee Gustavo Scarpa’s return from Olympiacos already secured. Chelsea loanee Andrey Santos has also returned to his parent club, and additional departures are anticipated before the transfer deadline on February 1. Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has emphasized the desire to work with a more compact squad, and the restructuring process involves assessing players like Mighten and Hwang, both with contracts extending until 2025.
