Vikings Hint at Anthony Barr’s Role After Reuniting with Linebacker While Defensive Coordinator Faces Uncertainty With the Team…

Vikings Bring Back LB Before Last Regular Season Match…

The Minnesota Vikings have added linebacker Abraham Beauplan to their practice squad, preparing for their season finale against the Detroit Lions in five days.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the Vikings have signed rookie linebacker Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad in anticipation of their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions on January 2.

Schultz shared the news on Tuesday, stating, “The #Vikings are signing rookie LB Abraham Beauplan after working him out today, his agent @DerykGilmore tells me. Beauplan was with Minnesota in the preseason but was waived following an injury. He’s now fully healthy.”

Beauplan, who played three years at Marshall from 2020 to 2022, showcased his skills with 231 tackles, including 23 tackles for loss, 5 forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 interception, as reported by Sports Reference.

While Beauplan is unlikely to participate in the Vikings’ final regular-season game, his signing suggests potential interest from Minnesota in securing the linebacker for a reserve/future contract. This would enable Beauplan to take part in the team’s upcoming training camp activities this spring.

The move to add Beauplan to the practice squad also implies that linebacker Anthony Barr is set to stay on the active roster for the crucial away game against the Lions on January 7.

Despite the Vikings having a mere 2.7% chance of making the playoffs, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the team is holding onto Barr.

The Vikings welcomed Barr back on November 13 after parting ways with him post the 2021 season. The upcoming game against the Lions could potentially be Barr’s final appearance with the Vikings and in the NFL, as he approaches his 32nd birthday and completes a decade at the professional level.

In contrast, Beauplan’s career may be just starting, provided he remains injury-free and meshes well with Minnesota’s defensive strategy. However, the future of the Vikings’ defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, remains uncertain for 2024.

Despite his success in implementing an aggressive and blitz-heavy defensive scheme during the 2023 season, Flores, with his coaching history, is likely to be a sought-after candidate for various NFL head coaching positions anticipated to open up in the coming months.
