Vikings’ Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has acknowledged the team’s assessment of the quarterback situation following Nick Mullens’ four-interception performance against the Detroit Lions on Christmas Eve.
When pressed about potential quarterback choices for the crucial New Year’s Eve game against the Green Bay Packers, O’Connell refrained from revealing the direction they might take but commended fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall.
O’Connell stated in a news conference on December 26 that Jaren Hall, who has recovered from a concussion, has been putting in significant effort and preparation, emphasizing that all three quarterbacks are being evaluated during the week. While not explicitly indicating their decision, O’Connell spoke highly of Hall, suggesting he is a strong contender.
Jaren Hall emerged as the Vikings’ starting quarterback in Week 9 when Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, and Mullens was still on injured reserve. Despite being knocked out of the game with a concussion, Hall’s performance against the Atlanta Falcons showcased promise. Since then, he has been preparing as the next option after Mullens.
O’Connell’s acknowledgment of Hall as a viable option signals a potential quarterback change for the Vikings, especially considering their slim 19.2% chance of making the playoffs after the recent loss to the Lions. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that the team is seriously considering benching Mullens in favor of rookie Jaren Hall.
