Portsmouth Manager Takes Cautionary Approach Amidst Joey Barton’s Departure…

Portsmouth’s manager, John Mousinho, approaches the upcoming weekend with caution amidst the distraction caused by Joey Barton’s departure, creating frustration for rivals Peterborough United.

Mousinho is gradually revealing transfer intentions to Pompey supporters in preparation for the January transfer window, aiming to sustain their impressive title push at Fratton Park.

Before the window opens, Portsmouth faces several League One challenges, including a match against Fleetwood Town and away trips to Bristol Rovers and Exeter City before the year concludes.

In anticipation of Fleetwood Town’s visit, Mousinho issues a warning about the potential pitfalls of the fixture, emphasizing the need for a prepared squad given the busy Christmas schedule.

Despite Fleetwood’s recent struggles and their position in the relegation zone, Mousinho acknowledges their capabilities, urging vigilance and preventing complacency.

Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic, currently in mid-table, is poised to be a significant spender in the January transfer market, thanks to the commitment of new owners from SE7 Partners. The American investors, Gabriel Brener and Joshua Friedman, have pledged funds to bring in players on permanent deals, with the goal of strengthening the starting 11 and making squad changes to push towards the play-offs.

In contrast, a potential deal between Bristol Rovers and Peterborough United for striker Jonson Clarke-Harris seems unlikely in January due to the managerial change at Bristol Rovers. The Gas had previously agreed on an £800,000 fee for Clarke-Harris in the summer, but the deal fell through. With Joey Barton’s sacking and the departure of Eddy Jennings, the deal is now in jeopardy, and Clarke-Harris is likely to fulfill his contract at Peterborough United before becoming a free agent next summer.
