Former Portsmouth Winger Eyes Career Resurgence in League Two After Fratton Park Departure…

Former Portsmouth Winger Ronan Curtis Seeks Career Revival in League Two Ronan Curtis, a former Portsmouth winger, is aiming to rejuvenate his career in League Two following his departure from Fratton Park.

The 27-year-old, who was once targeted by Cardiff, Bristol City, and Blackburn, is currently a free agent and has set his sights on playing at the League One level.

Curtis is presently training with AFC Wimbledon as he explores his options for the next phase of his career. The move has been facilitated by Bobby Bacic, the former head of physiotherapy at Portsmouth who joined Plough Lane in the summer. Additionally, Curtis is joined by former teammate Lee Brown at Wimbledon.

Although there are no indications of Curtis signing with AFC Wimbledon, where they currently stand seventh in League Two, he won’t be featuring in their squad against his former team, Portsmouth, in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday night (7.45 pm). Instead, the Republic of Ireland international is focused on regaining full fitness before making decisions about his future career path.

During his time at Portsmouth, Curtis garnered interest from Championship clubs like Cardiff, Bristol City, and Blackpool, with a valuation exceeding £1 million. However, after missing the last 10 months due to injury, he is now realistically considering options in League One or lower for a fresh start and an opportunity to revive his career, which ended disappointingly at Fratton Park.

Curtis, who scored 57 goals in 226 appearances for Portsmouth since his arrival in May 2018 under Kenny Jackett, faced setbacks in his progress under Danny Cowley. His career took a downturn after suffering a severe knee ligament injury against Bolton a month into John Mousinho’s tenure.

With his contract expiring at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, Portsmouth offered Curtis a new 12-month deal with reduced terms, considering his long-term injury. However, the offer was declined, leading to his departure from the club as he seeks a new opportunity to revive his career.
