Green Bay Reveals Strategic Roster Moves as Running Back is Set for Comeback Against Buccaneers…

Aaron Jones is anticipated to participate in the upcoming match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, marking his return to the field after recovering from a knee injury sustained in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

This news comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who provides insights into Jones’ potential comeback. Earlier in the season, Jones also missed three games due to a hamstring injury that originated in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears and was reaggravated in Week 5.

The Green Bay Packers have made strategic roster moves, shedding light on their approach to the running back position. Cornerback Eric Stokes, recovering from a hamstring injury, has been activated off the injured reserve. Additionally, running back Kenyan Drake and receiver Bo Melton have been elevated from the practice squad for the Buccaneers game.

The implications of these roster decisions suggest that Green Bay may not require a fourth running back unless AJ Dillon, dealing with a thumb injury, is deemed inactive for the game. Dillon confirmed earlier in the week that he broke his thumb in the final minutes against the New York Giants. Despite this, head coach Matt LaFleur mentioned on Friday that Dillon practiced with heavy padding on his hand, a practice more common for offensive linemen or defenders than offensive skill players.

Assuming Dillon is likely out, Jones is expected to play, with Patrick Taylor likely as the number two back and Drake as the reserve back. In the previous week against the Giants, both Taylor and Drake were active, with Taylor playing 32 offensive snaps out of a possible 68, while Drake did not see any playing time.

The remaining uncertainty revolves around Jones’ role in the game plan. Having faced multiple injuries this season, and with his last game played on November 19th, it remains to be seen how extensively Jones will be involved. With only 66 carries and 19 receptions on the season, and having exceeded 10 carries in just two games in 2023, there is a possibility that Taylor may receive the majority of snaps among the running backs on Sunday.
