Matt Sadlers Reacts as Southampton Showdown Awaits After Walsall Secured Third Round Emirates FA Cup Berth Against Alfreton Town…

Walsall manager Mat Sadler expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in the Emirates FA Cup – Second Round replay against Alfreton Town on Tuesday evening.

Despite facing the National League North side for the second time in a week, having previously struggled to overcome them in their rescheduled clash, Walsall secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

Jamille Matt scored the lone goal early in the first half, securing Walsall’s place in the Third Round alongside Southampton.

Sadler, who witnessed his team achieve back-to-back wins following their triumph over Notts County over the weekend, commended his players for their commitment.

Speaking to the media, including Paul Berry of the Express & Star, Sadler shared his perspective on the game, stating, “I enjoyed tonight’s game from various angles.

As a coach, I appreciated that we settled the game with an early goal. While I would have preferred more goals, I found enjoyment in the team’s cohesion, resilience, and never-say-die attitude.”

He acknowledged the collective effort required in such matches, expressing that scoring a second goal would have provided more comfort.

Nevertheless, Sadler emphasized the positive feeling derived from the team’s hard work and determination to secure the victory, illustrating their willingness to do whatever it took to win the game.

In a somewhat subdued evening, Walsall successfully completed their task.

They secured a spot in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup, joining Southampton, after narrowly defeating Alfreton Town, a National League North team, on Tuesday night.

The sole difference on the scoreboard was an early goal from Jamille Matt, witnessed by a sparse crowd at Bescot Stadium. This victory followed a goalless draw between the two teams at the Impact Arena a week prior.

With this win, the Saddlers are now set to face off against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on or around Saturday, January 6, 2023.

Consequently, their originally scheduled home match against Morecambe has been postponed.
