Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen Firmly Rules Out Catcher’s Trade Talks in Offseason Plans…

Mike Hazen is firm in his stance: Gabriel Moreno trade discussions have no place in the Diamondbacks’ plans. The Winter Meetings commenced on December 3rd, gathering MLB owners in Nashville to strategize for the upcoming season. Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen has already shed light on his offseason approach.

Hazen, in particular, emphasized his unwillingness to part ways with a specific player. When questioned about Gabriel Moreno, he expressed a straightforward response. According to Jesse Friedman at PHNX Sports, Hazen stated that if an owner were to call him regarding Moreno, he would answer the call, express gratitude, and swiftly redirect the conversation.

This position appears reasonable considering Moreno’s exceptional performance in the previous season. The Diamondbacks acquired the 23-year-old catcher in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays around the same time the previous December. Despite uncertainties about Moreno’s potential, he exceeded all expectations in his second MLB season.

With a notable .284 batting average, Moreno earned the Gold Glove award, leading the league with an impressive 39% caught stealing rate. If the Diamondbacks aim to make a significant impact this offseason, one avenue could be securing Moreno through a multi-year deal, ensuring his presence in Arizona for the next five years or more.
