The Rovers head coach received a booking for expressing strong emotions in response to the second goal, but the reason for his subsequent dismissal a few minutes later remains unclear.
Referee David Webb seemed to issue a straight red card to Tomasson, rather than two yellow cards, which would result in an automatic one-game ban upon The FA’s inevitable charge.
In contrast, West Brom manager Carlos Corberan, who was sent off on the season’s opening day at Ewood Park, received two yellow cards – one for protesting an Albion penalty and the second for leaving his technical area. Corberan accepted the charge and avoided a ban, instead facing a fine.
According to FA regulations, if Tomasson is banned, he will be restricted to communicating with his bench through a mobile phone or a designated ‘runner.’ He won’t be allowed on the touchline at any point, including during warm-ups.
Tomasson will still have access to the dressing room, enabling him to interact with his players before and after the match.
The primary disruption will be him watching from the stands, while assistant Remi Reynierse and Ben Benson are likely to convey direct instructions to the players.
The match at Ewood Park has a kick-off time of 12:30 pm based on police advice. The Whites are anticipated to sell out their allocation of over 7,000 away tickets, making it one of the season’s most well-attended fixtures.
