Wes Burns Makes a Heartfelt Admission Amid his Heroic Contribution to Ipswich Town’s Victory

Blues winger Wes Burns revealed that his spectacular trivela finish against Coventry City, which secured a 2-1 home victory at Portman Road, had been attempted numerous times in training without success.

Burns, who scored his second goal of the season, expressed amusement at his manager Kieran McKenna’s critique of his left foot usage.

Speaking to TownTV after the match, Burns explained, “I’ve tried it so many times in training, and it’s not come off.

The space opened up on the inside, and I thought I would use the outside of my foot this time. They were covering the line well, and I decided to give it a shot in the game. Brilliant.”

Manager McKenna praised the goal as his favorite in almost two years at the club. Burns highlighted the team’s positive start, with George Hirst scoring in the sixth minute from Nathan Broadhead’s assist.

Reflecting on the early goal, Burns mentioned the need for intensity and discipline, emphasizing the team’s adherence to their principles throughout the game.

Addressing Hirst’s goal, Burns admitted missing the moment due to an off-the-ball collision but acknowledged it as a good finish. He commended the team’s balanced approach, disrupting the opponent’s direct play through the middle and maintaining a solid defensive stance.

Burns acknowledged the expected second-half reaction from Coventry, as they made tactical changes and improved their pressing. Despite the opposition’s efforts, Ipswich Town held on to their 2-0 lead, securing the win.

Burns expressed joy at collecting six points from two home games after the disappointment of the previous league defeat at West Brom, emphasizing the team’s commitment to different game plans and the desire to win every match.
