Southampton set to embark on scouting mission beyond the league as they are push in the January transfer window…

Southampton is gearing up for a scouting mission in January to enhance their prospects of securing promotion in the Championship.

Currently occupying the 4th position in the table, they are eyeing potential reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window to bolster their chances of reaching the automatic promotion spots, currently nine points adrift of Ipswich Town and Leicester City, with Leeds United just one point ahead in 3rd place.

In a strategic move, Southampton will have their scouts present at the Austria vs Germany match on Tuesday night, alongside representatives from Lyon, Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim, Karlsruher, and Vitesse Arnhem. While it’s uncertain if specific players are on their radar, observing games during the international break is considered a prudent approach to identify potential winter transfer targets.

After a busy summer transfer window following their relegation from the Premier League, Southampton aims to further strengthen their squad under the leadership of Russell Martin. Fresh faces in the team could play a crucial role in implementing Martin’s philosophy at St. Mary’s and narrowing the gap to the automatic promotion spots.

While attention is on the Austria vs Germany fixture, Russell Martin and his coaching team are simultaneously preparing the Southampton squad for upcoming fixtures.

The Saints are set to face Huddersfield Town away on Saturday afternoon, followed by a midweek clash with Bristol City next Wednesday.
