Scott Lindsey, who has been in charge of Crawley Town for almost a year, reflects on his journey with the club. Having rescued them from relegation in the previous season and achieving a strong start in the current one, Lindsey shares his thoughts on the team’s composition and potential arrivals and departures. Currently, Crawley sits 14th in League Two, and Lindsey highlights the significant changes in the team since he assumed his role.
Lindsey acknowledges the team’s relative youth and freshness, stating, “We need to recognize our current situation; we are a very young and recently assembled team.” He emphasizes that only three players who played in a recent match were part of the squad when he initially joined – Corey Addai, Travis Johnson, and Nicholas Tsaroulla – indicating a substantial turnover in the team.
Despite the team’s recent additions, including Laurence Maguire, who have integrated seamlessly, Lindsey conveys plans for a staff meeting to discuss the team’s needs and potential areas for squad reinforcement. Overall, Lindsey expresses contentment with the team’s performance under his management, asserting, “I believe the squad has performed admirably. Our summer recruitment was excellent, allowing us to play our current style of football and accumulate points swiftly, which I consider a remarkable achievement.”
He also praises the club’s business during the summer transfer window, noting that it largely aligned with their plans, yet he suggests there is room for improvement and expansion.
One of the noteworthy summer signings is Ronan Darcy, who had previously worked with Lindsey at Swindon. The 22-year-old has already scored four goals this season, and Lindsey speaks highly of his contribution, stating, “Darcy has been outstanding. He performed exceptionally well for me at Swindon, and when he became available during the transfer window, we acted swiftly to secure his services. We now have an excellent working relationship, and he is a valuable asset on the field, consistently creating opportunities and contributing with goals.”
Regarding specific areas for reinforcement in the upcoming window, Lindsey comments, “It’s always beneficial to have impact players on the bench, and while I believe we have some, I think we could use a bit more.” He specifically highlights the need for additional options in the striker position, mentioning Danilo Orsi and Klaidi Lolos as contributors but expressing the desire for another number nine to enhance their squad’s depth. Lindsey concludes by indicating that there might be other positions to fortify with new additions but reiterates his satisfaction with the team’s overall performance.
