Despite Davante Adams reportedly being available for a trade, the Dallas Cowboys don’t appear to be pursuing the star wide receiver. Adams has requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, where he’s played three games this season, recording 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown. While NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport mentioned the Cowboys as a potential suitor, along with teams like the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and San Francisco 49ers, Dallas seems unlikely to make a move.
Even though Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler and dynamic playmaker, the Cowboys are dealing with a tight salary cap situation. After handing out hefty contracts to quarterback Dak Prescott and star receiver CeeDee Lamb, Dallas doesn’t see a realistic path to adding another high-paid player to their roster.
Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones shut down the speculation during an interview with San Antonio’s Sports Star, saying, “No. I don’t think there is anything to that. We just signed our No. 1 guy (CeeDee Lamb), and (Adams) is a No. 1 receiver. With the cap challenges we have, that would be a tough move for us.”
In addition to the cap concerns, the Cowboys are also focusing on securing their defensive cornerstone, Micah Parsons, who is in line for a major extension that could make him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the league.
