Kentucky Dominates Ohio in 41-6 Victory

Brock Vandagriff delivered an impressive performance, completing 17 of 24 passes for 237 yards, leading Kentucky to a commanding 41-6 home victory over Ohio on Saturday. Dane Key emerged as Vandagriff’s go-to target, hauling in seven catches for 145 yards. The Wildcats broke out in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns, ending a two-game streak without reaching the end zone. Kentucky’s defense also shined, holding Ohio to just 223 yards of total offense, including only 113 rushing yards on 32 attempts, while forcing two turnovers. Offensively, Kentucky racked up 488 total yards—282 passing and 206 rushing.

Kentucky (2-2) got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter with Alex Raynor’s 30-yard field goal. The Wildcats extended their lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, capping off a seven-play, 80-yard drive highlighted by long runs of 21 and 23 yards from Jamarion Wilcox. Shortly after, Kentucky put together another 80-yard drive, this time in eight plays, to make it 17-0 after Sumo-Karngbaye’s 2-yard touchdown run. Key played a critical role on this drive, with Vandagriff connecting on two deep passes to him—one for 42 yards and another for 36—that moved the ball to the Ohio 2-yard line.

Raynor added a 34-yard field goal, increasing the Wildcats’ lead to 20-0. Kentucky then pulled ahead 27-0 in the third quarter when Maxwell Hairston returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. Ohio finally got on the board at the start of the fourth quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by Rickey Hunt Jr., completing a five-play, 51-yard drive. However, the Bobcats’ two-point conversion attempt failed.

Kentucky quickly responded with a 56-yard drive in six plays, culminating in Barion Brown’s 23-yard touchdown run to make it 34-6. Backup quarterback Gavin Wimsatt sealed the deal with a 2-yard touchdown run with just 3:45 left, finishing off Kentucky’s dominant win. —Field Level Media
