Hurricanes Name Another Promising ACC Quarterback of the Week After Controversial Win Over Virginia Tech

In a thrilling showdown at Hard Rock Stadium, the Virginia Tech Hokies nearly pulled off an upset against the No. 7 ranked Miami Hurricanes. However, a controversial final play allowed Miami to secure a 38-34 victory, avoiding a late-game collapse.

The Hurricanes trailed for much of the game but regained the lead late in the fourth quarter. As the clock ran down, Virginia Tech had one last shot, launching a Hail Mary to the end zone. Initially called a Hokies touchdown, the play was reviewed, and officials ruled the pass incomplete, sealing Miami’s narrow win.

Miami quarterback and Heisman candidate Cam Ward played a crucial role in the victory, showcasing his talent under pressure. His efforts earned him the ACC Quarterback of the Week award for the second consecutive week. Ward’s leadership and clutch playmaking helped Miami hold off a resilient Virginia Tech team, further establishing him as one of the top players in the conference.

Ward completed 24 of 38 passes, amassing 343 yards and throwing four touchdowns, though he also threw two interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 57 yards and added a rushing touchdown, marking his fifth consecutive game with over 300 passing yards.

With the victory, Miami improved to 5-0 on the season but dropped to No. 8 in the latest top-25 rankings. Despite the slight drop, the Hurricanes remain strong contenders for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
