As the Dallas Mavericks prepare for training camp in Las Vegas starting October 1, they face important questions about their roster depth. Following a successful run to the NBA Finals, the team has made several key additions to enhance shooting and playmaking.
Among the players under pressure is Jaden Hardy, a talent acquired during the 2021 NBA Draft. With the Mavericks trading for Quentin Grimes and re-signing Spencer Dinwiddie, Hardy’s role is uncertain. Last season, he averaged 7.3 points per game with a three-point shooting percentage of 36.5%, along with a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. To secure a consistent spot in the rotation, he needs to improve his three-point shooting to nearly 40%.
This season is particularly crucial for Hardy as it’s a contract year; he will be a restricted free agent after the season. The Mavericks might consider trading him along with Maxi Kleber to acquire a more reliable rotation player. With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving solidifying the starting guard positions, the focus is on finding complementary players. Grimes offers potential as a 3&D guard, while Dinwiddie has proven to be an effective scorer off the bench.
