Despite this, Ward declared the win a significant achievement, asserting, “I’m the best player in the country,” during an interview with the ACC Network. He expressed pride in his decision to join Miami, citing the team’s strong offense and defense as key factors in their success.
Ward’s comments sparked a backlash online, with many criticizing his self-proclaimed status. Critics accused him of being overrated and questioned his performance, especially since he faced scrutiny for nearly losing to Virginia Tech. In the game, Ward completed 24 of 38 passes for 343 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also rushing for a touchdown.
