Lane Kiffin Discusses Weather Impact and Previews Ole Miss vs. Kentucky Showdown

When asked during Thursday’s RebTalk about how potential weather conditions might affect Ole Miss’ offensive strategy, head coach Lane Kiffin responded:

“We just adapt to whatever the conditions are. Sometimes, if it rains early and then clears up, it can actually work to your advantage. Offensively, you know where you’re going, so footing can be better, while the defense may struggle. Both teams have to deal with it regardless. We practice with wet footballs occasionally… not too much though, because it can disrupt practice.”

The Rebels are entering the weekend with a 4-0 record after non-conference play and are ranked as high as No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. On the other hand, Kentucky holds a 2-2 record and is still searching for its first conference win of the season.

“I’m excited about this matchup. Kentucky is a very well-coached program that plays with a lot of physicality,” Kiffin said earlier in the week. “This is going to be a big challenge. They pushed Georgia to the limit and rushed for over 200 yards against them. They’re a very good team, and they’re motivated to play… Their defense resembles an NFL unit in terms of size, coverage, and techniques. That’s why teams often struggle against them. The games feel more like NFL matchups—yards are hard to come by, and it’s tough to run the ball.”
