Breaking News: Browns Restructure QB Deshaun Watson’s Contract, Freeing Up $62.3 Million in Cap Space for Potential Mid-Season Moves, sparking major boost…

In a significant financial move, the Cleveland Browns have restructured quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract, freeing up $62.3 million in cap space ahead of potential mid-season acquisitions. This strategic decision provides the team with more flexibility, though they’ve yet to make any notable trades despite several injury-related gaps on their roster.

However, the Browns have made a notable signing. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the team has brought back wide receiver and return specialist James Proche II, offering him a one-year contract worth $1.125 million. Proche had previously been cut during the Browns’ final roster trim but was quickly re-signed to the practice squad.

Proche was promoted to the active roster after Week 1, ahead of the Browns’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Primarily used as a returner, Proche has logged two offensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps across his two appearances this season. So far, he’s returned eight punts for 63 yards in 2024.

Last season, Proche contributed on special teams by returning 22 punts for 197 yards and one kickoff in 10 games. Before his time in Cleveland, Proche spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, where his best receiving year came in 2021, catching 16 passes for 202 yards over 14 games.

As the Browns gear up for the remainder of the season, Proche’s return adds depth to their special teams unit while Watson’s restructured deal leaves room for future roster upgrades.
