Broncos Secure First Win with Dominant Defense, Eye Next Challenge Against Jets

“It’s a good win—a solid road victory—against a tough team. I give credit to the players,” said Payton. “We played well up front on both sides of the ball. But really, it’s about the leadership and effort from the players. We had a strong week of practice, came in with the right mindset. It wasn’t our best performance, but it was enough to get the job done today.”

Despite not playing their best, the Broncos showed marked improvement across the board. And that defense? Vance Joseph’s squad was dominant, holding the Buccaneers to just seven points while racking up seven sacks and forcing two turnovers. Joseph’s aggressive game plan mirrored Payton’s offensive approach, leading to a relentless attack that limited Tampa Bay to only 223 total yards—132 passing and 91 rushing.

As for Mike Evans, the future Hall of Fame wide receiver was held to just two catches. Patrick Surtain II put on a clinic, shutting Evans down for most of the game. Even though he allowed one touchdown to Chris Godwin, Riley Moss also stood out, contributing to a key fumble recovery that sealed the win.

In the end, the Broncos secured their first victory of the season. This win could be a much-needed confidence boost for both the coaching staff and the players. Up next: the New York Jets. A win there would bring the Broncos back to .500 and firmly back into the mix in a competitive AFC.

I’m looking forward to what’s next. How about you, Broncos Country?
