Chicago Sports Network and DirecTV Sign Multiyear Deal to Broadcast Blackhawks, Bulls, and White Sox Games Across Five States

Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) and DirecTV have entered into a multiyear distribution agreement to broadcast live local games for the Chicago Blackhawks, Bulls, and White Sox across five states, including much of Illinois, Iowa, and parts of Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The games will be available starting October 1, 2024.

This comprehensive deal, covering satellite, streaming, and IPTV services, marks the first agreement for CHSN as the new exclusive TV broadcaster for the three Chicago sports teams. Under the agreement, CHSN will air up to 300 live games, along with other Chicago and Midwest-based sports content, all in high-definition. The network will be accessible via DirecTV Satellite, DirecTV Stream, and U-verse on channel 665 and U-verse channels 1741 (HD) and 741 (SD). CHSN will take over the channel slots previously held by the former broadcasters of the teams and will be available to customers with DirecTV’s Choice or higher subscription packages.

“We take pride in being a leader in sports and plan to stay at the forefront,” said Rob Thun, DirecTV’s chief content officer. “In today’s media environment, consumer choice is key, and it’s important that fans can easily follow their favorite teams while others aren’t burdened with extra costs. Both CHSN and DirecTV recognize the unique ability of local sports teams to bring communities together, and we’re committed to working with top leagues, local teams, and media partners to engage future generations of fans.”

Jason Coyle, president of CHSN, added, “This agreement gives CHSN a strong foundation and aligns us with one of the top innovators in sports media. We are thrilled by DirecTV’s dedication to Chicago and its passionate fanbase, and we look forward to working together to deliver quality and engaging game-day experiences for everyone who loves Chicago sports.”

Following the resolution of a carriage dispute with Disney, DirecTV emphasized that this deal underscores its long-standing focus on local sports programming, which includes channels like NFL Network, MLB Network, Big Ten Network, and SEC Network, along with individual team channels and access to marquee events like UFC and out-of-market NFL games. Additionally, DirecTV noted that its recent agreement with The Walt Disney Co. for more affordable sports and genre-specific packages will help further expand its sports programming lineup.
