Rangers Bolster Defensive Depth Ahead of Training Camp

Bowey, a right-shot defenseman, adds depth to a position where the Rangers could use reinforcements. The team’s top three right-handed defensemen expected to play in the NHL this season are Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba, and Braden Schneider. Veteran Chad Ruhwedel is currently the favorite to secure the extra defenseman spot.

To further strengthen this position, the Rangers signed Casey Fitzgerald in the offseason. Additionally, 2022 draft pick Victor Mancini is set to begin his first full season with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL.

On the left side, the Rangers have more stability. Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, and Zac Jones are the main NHL players, with several other options available to compete for roster spots or serve as call-ups from Hartford.

This group includes Ben Harpur, Connor Mackey, and Brandon Scanlin, along with Matthew Robertson, a fourth-year pro and the Rangers’ 2019 second-round draft pick.

The Rangers are currently holding rookie camp and will kick off training camp next week. Their first preseason game is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22, against the Boston Bruins, followed by their first home preseason game at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, Sept. 24, against the Islanders.
