Skyler Brind’Amour Lands NHL Contract with Carolina, Set to Play Under His Father

Skyler Brind’Amour, once drafted by the Oilers, chose not to sign with the team, instead opting to complete a full four-year stint at Quinnipiac University. After finishing college, he inked an AHL contract with the Charlottesville Checkers, where he managed a modest 3 goals and 8 points in 54 games.

Now 25, Brind’Amour’s underwhelming AHL performance makes it surprising that the Carolina Hurricanes offered him an NHL contract. The move suggests the team sees potential for improvement under the guidance of his father, Rod Brind’Amour, or perhaps believes Skyler’s skills will flourish at the NHL level.

Rod Brind’Amour, a prominent figure in the NHL coaching scene, has been the head coach of the Hurricanes for six years, boasting an impressive 278-130-44 record. A former player with 1,484 NHL games under his belt, Rod was known for his intensity and physical fitness, traits he now imparts to his team. He led the Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup victory in 2006 and earned two Selke trophies during his career.

For the Oilers, it’s disappointing to lose a draft pick to a player who never signed, but Skyler’s performance suggests the loss may not be too significant. It seems that the Brind’Amour father-son duo was determined to unite. Skyler’s journey this season will be worth watching, as fans anticipate whether Rod can bring out the best in his son.
