Breaking News: New York Knicks Inks Another Booster Contract with 27-Year Old Sensational Veteran Sniper…

The New York Knicks have officially signed veteran guard Landry Shamet, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The specific terms of Shamet’s contract have not yet been disclosed.

Shamet, 27, played for the Washington Wizards last season, averaging 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists across 46 games. His shooting performance saw a dip, with field goal accuracy at 43.1% and a career-low 33.8% from three-point range.

In July, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the Knicks were interested in Shamet. Other teams showing interest included the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Over his six-year NBA career, Shamet has also been with the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and Phoenix Suns.

What Landry Shamet Brings to the Knicks

Known for his three-point shooting, Shamet had his least efficient season from beyond the arc last year, partially due to a career-low 3.4 attempts per game. Despite this, he holds a career average of 38.4% shooting from three-point range. Although he is a capable defender, he is not considered a standout, and at 6’4″, he is somewhat undersized for a shooting guard. Nonetheless, Shamet has carved out a solid NBA career thus far.

With the Knicks, Shamet is unlikely to play a major role. The team has Mikal Bridges as their expected starting shooting guard, with Donte DiVincenzo as the primary backup. The Knicks also have several other players who can fill the shooting guard position if needed. Signing Shamet at this stage of the offseason represents a low-risk, high-reward move for the Knicks, adding a reliable veteran to their roster.

The Knicks’ Offseason Overview

The Knicks’ offseason has been notably eventful. They made headlines by acquiring Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in a surprising trade, extended Jalen Brunson on a favorable contract, and re-signed OG Anunoby. However, they lost Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Alec Burks to the Heat. Additionally, trade rumors surrounding Julius Randle persist, and he may enter the 2024-25 season without a new deal.

Overall, the Knicks are well-positioned to be strong contenders next season. They finished as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference last year and appear to be even better this season. While the Boston Celtics remain the team to beat in the conference, the Knicks are poised to challenge their dominance and could potentially disrupt the Celtics’ bid for another championship.
