Breaking News: Chicago Sky Cut Another Veteran Superstar Following Season-Ending Injury…

The Chicago Sky have made another major roster move, cutting a highly experienced superstar following a season-ending injury. This marks the latest in a series of setbacks for the team, as they navigate a challenging season with key players sidelined. The decision comes as the Sky are fighting to secure the final playoff spot, intensifying the pressure on the remaining roster as they head into the final stretch of the season.

Aaliyah Edwards posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittney Sykes contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, leading the Washington Mystics to a commanding 89-58 victory over the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night. This win puts Washington just one game behind the eighth-place Sky for the final WNBA playoff spot.

The Mystics (12-24) are now tied for ninth place with the Atlanta Dream (12-24). Atlanta will host Washington on Friday in the first game of a critical home-and-home series. Meanwhile, Chicago (13-23) will face playoff-bound Minnesota and Phoenix later in the week before a crucial showdown with Atlanta on September 17.

Washington shot an impressive 50% from the field, with all 11 active players contributing at least one field goal. Defensively, the Mystics held the Sky to a season-low 58 points, forcing Chicago into 36% shooting and 15 turnovers.

Off the bench, Sika Kone added 11 points for Washington, which has now beaten Chicago three times in four matchups this season.

Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 16 points, while Kamilla Cardoso added 13 points and eight rebounds. Isabelle Harrison chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 7:22 remaining in the game.

Washington took control early, leading 43-29 at halftime, with Sykes scoring 12 points in the first two quarters. The Sky will need to regroup quickly as their playoff hopes hang in the balance.
