Heartbreaking News: Bruins’ Captain Brad Marchand Officially Out for the Season Amid Worrisome Challenges; Jim Montgomery Faces Critical…

Bruins’ captain Brad Marchand, although dressed for a day on the greens at the Bruins Foundation’s annual tournament at Pinehills Golf Club, was notably absent from participating in the golf event. Having undergone three surgeries during the offseason, Marchand shared that his recovery has been progressing but remains uncertain about his readiness for training camp, which begins next week.

While his rehabilitation has been going well, it doesn’t yet allow for physical activities like golf. Marchand remains hopeful to hit the ice for the start of camp, with the team set for physicals on Wednesday and practice beginning Thursday. If he isn’t there on day one, he believes it won’t be long before he joins.

“I feel good—better every day,” Marchand said. “If I don’t start camp, it’ll only be a couple of days later. Everything is progressing faster than expected, especially with my arm, which was the biggest concern. But I’m shooting and passing now, and I even skated with the guys [Thursday] for the first time. I still have some work to do conditioning-wise, but overall, I’m in a good place.”

When asked if he’d be ready for the Bruins’ season opener on Oct. 8 in Florida, Marchand expressed confidence.

“I’d be very surprised if I wasn’t ready for opening night,” he said. “Until I get into more physical situations to really test it, I can’t be 100% sure, but with how things are progressing, I expect to be good for the season.”

At 36, Marchand’s surgeries included repairing a torn tendon in his elbow, groin surgery, and an abdominal procedure for a sports hernia.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery, who recently returned from attending the funerals of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, didn’t have much to add regarding other players’ statuses.

“I’ve been away the last few days,” Montgomery said. “From what I’ve heard, everyone’s doing well, and Marchand is trending in the right direction for the season, which is what’s most important for someone like him.”
