The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured their first-round draft pick, Ben Danford, by signing him to a three-year entry-level contract as of Friday. Danford, an 18-year-old defenseman, was picked 31st overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Expressing his gratitude, Danford took to Instagram to share his excitement: “I am honored to sign my first NHL contract with the Maple Leafs. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way.”

Last season, Danford played for the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he accumulated 33 points from one goal and 32 assists in 64 regular-season games. His performance was instrumental during the playoffs, where he contributed 10 points—scoring four goals and assisting on six others—in 21 games, aiding the Generals in advancing to the championship series.

Over his career with the Generals, Danford has amassed a total of 54 points, consisting of five goals and 49 assists, across 127 games.
