Everyone’s Talking About Drake Maye After His First Practice…
In the post-Tom Brady era, the New England Patriots have struggled to reclaim their status as one of the top teams in the AFC. This struggle recently led to the departure of their longtime head coach, Bill Belichick.
Starting anew, the Patriots hired Jerod Mayo as the new head coach and traded quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they were determined to select a new quarterback. They successfully drafted North Carolina’s Drake Maye after the Chicago Bears picked USC star Caleb Williams and the Washington Commanders selected Jayden Daniels.
As training camp begins, there’s been much speculation about the Patriots’ plans for Maye and whether he will start in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Tar Heels star has already impressed with his arm strength during practice. On Wednesday, Maye threw a long pass that caught everyone’s attention due to how effortlessly he launched it downfield, as shown on the NFL’s Twitter account.
Fans have reacted positively to Maye’s impressive throws during Patriots practice.
The Patriots have also brought in veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, setting up a quarterback competition throughout training camp. While Brissett might have the initial advantage due to his experience, this could change before Week 1.
