The University of Alabama will honor retired coach Nick Saban by naming the football field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after him. Starting in September, the field will officially be known as Nick Saban Field.

The university confirmed this decision on Friday with a unanimous vote, recognizing Saban’s leadership in bringing six national championships to the Crimson Tide. Saban expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are humbled that The University of Alabama has honored us with the naming of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The remarkable success that the football program has achieved over the past 17 years is a reflection of the hard work of many student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Being the leader of the process at Alabama has been the greatest privilege of my life. Terry and I are grateful for the naming of Saban Field, which forever celebrates our accomplishments.”

Saban led Alabama to national championships in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020. He retired after the 2023 season, concluding his college coaching career with a record of 297-71-1, including a 206-29 mark with Alabama. He also secured nine of his 11 SEC titles while coaching the Crimson Tide. Before his tenure at Alabama, Saban coached at Toledo, Michigan State, and LSU, where he won a national title in 2003.

University President Stuart R. Bell remarked, “Dedicating the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium as Saban Field is a fitting way to honor Coach Saban’s extraordinary contributions to The University of Alabama. Coach Saban and Ms. Terry have significantly enriched our community, and this recognition celebrates their lasting legacy. We are grateful to the Board of Trustees for bestowing this great honor.”
