Pompey’s Training Ground Overhaul Aims to Attract Top Talent Amidst Summer Transfer Battle…

Portsmouth’s newly upgraded training facilities are nearing completion, and CEO Andy Cullen believes these enhancements will play a crucial role in attracting players during the summer transfer window, competing against clubs like Sunderland, Leeds United, and Norwich City.

The first-team squad is set to experience these upgrades when they return for pre-season training on June 27. Since relocating to the Hilsea site in 2014, they have operated out of temporary Portakabins. Now, they will move into the main building, which features a new gym, medical room, analyst suite, theatre, and a common room for players.

This significant investment by owners Tornante, estimated at £5 million by Cullen last year, is expected to make a noticeable impact on the players’ work environment.

Cullen is confident that these improvements will be a major advantage in attracting new talent, showcasing Pompey’s readiness for the Championship in terms of infrastructure.

He stated, “The training ground improvements are almost complete. When the players return for pre-season at the end of June, they will be in a new building with upgraded facilities. It looks really impressive and can make a big difference as we start a new season.”

He emphasized the importance of these upgrades in attracting talent to Portsmouth, noting the increased competition compared to a year ago. Additionally, Cullen highlighted ongoing improvements at Fratton Park, including updates to broadcast gantries, the North Stand, and behind-the-scenes areas like the dressing rooms, ensuring Pompey is “truly Championship ready.”
