NC State Basketball May Face Purdue Again in San Diego Next Season

N.C. State might not have to wait long for another chance against Purdue. The Wolfpack and Boilermakers met in the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Final Four in Glendale, Arizona, where Purdue emerged victorious to advance to the championship game. However, a recent change in the lineup for the 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego could set the stage for a rematch early next season.

Tournament officials announced on Thursday that N.C. State and Purdue have been added to the four-team tournament, replacing Notre Dame and Arkansas. The event, which will also feature Brigham Young and Mississippi, is scheduled for November 28-29 at LionTree Arena on the UC San Diego campus. The matchups and game times will be announced later.

“This is exciting!” stated Mark Neville, CEO of Sports San Diego. “While we are disappointed that two teams have opted out of their contracts, we are thrilled to welcome the SEC’s Ole Miss and another Final Four team, NC State!”

The Wolfpack is coming off a notable season that drew national attention, winning the 2024 ACC Tournament and advancing to the Final Four. In their loss to Purdue, they held the Boilermakers to 63 points and limited 7-foot-4 center Zach Edey, the national player of the year, to 20 points and 12 rebounds. Edey will enter the 2024 NBA Draft, and both teams may feature new rosters with incoming transfers.

N.C. State is currently assembling its nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 season. One confirmed game, according to the Kansas City Star, is a December 14 visit to Kansas to play the Jayhawks at historic Allen Fieldhouse.
