Breaking: Nuggets Strongly Warned Against Replacing $60 Million Starter with Inexperienced Target..

The Denver Nuggets are facing a tough decision regarding guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who can become a free agent this summer. During his season-ending press conference, Nuggets GM Calvin Booth hinted at Caldwell-Pope’s potential departure due to the NBA luxury tax and the second salary cap apron, which the team would exceed if they re-sign him without offloading other salaries. Booth praised reserve guard Christian Braun as a possible replacement starter, despite Braun’s lackluster postseason performance.

Columnist Sean Keeler from the Denver Post argued that promoting Braun to the starting lineup in place of Caldwell-Pope could significantly weaken the Nuggets’ starting five. Keeler highlighted Braun’s struggles in stepping up last season and questioned the logic of expecting him to succeed Caldwell-Pope. He suggested that unless the Nuggets invest in a seasoned shooter to support Braun, the transition could be detrimental.

The financial constraints of the Nuggets and the allure of a substantial offer elsewhere, possibly from the Philadelphia 76ers, further complicate Caldwell-Pope’s re-signing. The 76ers, in need of a reliable 3-and-D player, might offer him a lucrative contract, posing a significant risk to the Nuggets retaining him.
