The Miami Heat secured a 121-111 victory over the Toronto Raptors in their final NBA Cup group play game, with strong contributions from the entire team. One standout moment was Bam Adebayo recording his eighth career triple-double, but another key performance came from Terry Rozier, whose clutch shots late in the game impressed Jimmy Butler. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra had referred to Rozier as the team’s “X-factor” before the game, praising his new role coming off the bench. Butler, however, believes Rozier is not just an X-factor but a star, acknowledging his ability to embrace a new role without complaint. Butler emphasized Rozier’s consistency in being aggressive, getting teammates involved, and contributing significantly to recent wins.
Rozier had a rough first half, scoring no points and committing three fouls, but he came alive in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter. With the Heat struggling offensively, Rozier hit three 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Despite a previous foot injury, he was able to perform without limitation, with Spoelstra calling him a “gifted ignitable clutch player” who thrives in high-pressure situations.
Since moving to a bench role this season, Rozier has had a major impact, including scoring 17 points in an earlier loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He credited his teammates and coaches for their trust in him, acknowledging the need to be more aggressive and efficient when he enters the game. Rozier, who played the entire fourth quarter, has adjusted to his new role but expressed appreciation for Spoelstra’s trust in him during crunch time.
The Heat’s deep bench, including players like Kevin Love, Pelle Larsson, Alec Burks, and Jaime Jaquez Jr., has been crucial, with Rozier emphasizing the unit’s focus on changing the game. Spoelstra noted Rozier’s willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team win, especially after struggling early in the season. With their recent performance, the Heat are now 9-8 and sit fifth in the Eastern Conference. They’ll next face the Raptors again before heading on a road trip against the Celtics and Lakers.
