The Portland Trail Blazers have officially signed free agent guard James Bouknight to a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract, as announced in a press release.
According to Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report (via Twitter), the Blazers plan to waive Bouknight before the start of the regular season. Afterward, he is expected to join the Rip City Remix, Portland’s G League affiliate. His Exhibit 10 deal makes him eligible for a bonus of up to $77.5K, in addition to his regular G League salary, if he spends at least 60 days with the Remix.
Bouknight, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, struggled to find consistency during his time with the Charlotte Hornets. Over 79 career games, he averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game, with shooting splits of .363 from the field, .335 from beyond the arc, and .762 from the free-throw line.
The 24-year-old guard also faced legal issues and injuries during his time in the NBA. Last October, he underwent surgery for a meniscus injury in his left knee. Later, the Hornets declined his fourth-year option for the 2024/25 season and waived him in February, as they needed roster space following trades involving Gordon Hayward and P.J. Washington.
