White Sox Owner Vows Change After Record-Breaking, Embarrassing 2024 Season

**White Sox Owner Addresses ‘Embarrassing’ Season After Record-Breaking Losses**

The Chicago White Sox have closed out a historically tough 2024 season with 121 losses and just 41 wins, surpassing the post-1900 MLB record for losses set by the 1962 New York Mets (120 losses). Owner Jerry Reinsdorf has publicly acknowledged the team’s disappointing performance, calling it an “embarrassing season” in a letter to fans.

In his statement, Reinsdorf took full responsibility for the season’s outcome, describing it as a “failure.” He thanked fans for their continued support during such a difficult year, noting that their frustrations were justified. “This season’s performance was completely unacceptable, and I understand the varying emotions from our fanbase,” Reinsdorf said.

Reinsdorf emphasized that changes are already in motion to ensure a more competitive team in 2025. “We will embrace new ideas and outside perspectives to fix this for next season and the future. This includes further developing our current roster, improving our player development system, and assessing trade and free-agent opportunities,” he added. Additionally, new leadership is being established in the team’s analytics department to refine every aspect of the organization.

Reinsdorf praised general manager Chris Getz, who took over in 2023 and initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the organization’s operations. “Chris is rebuilding the foundation of our baseball department, with notable changes in player development, international scouting, professional scouting, and analytics,” Reinsdorf said.

He acknowledged that while some changes will yield immediate results, others may take time. Finding a new manager, Reinsdorf stated, will be the team’s “most important decision,” and the search for a candidate is already underway.

Despite the challenging season, Reinsdorf highlighted a few positives, particularly from the team’s minor league system. “Even in the worst of seasons, there were bright spots. Our minor league teams have made impressive strides, with the Class AA Birmingham Barons winning the Southern League title, and Class A Kannapolis reaching the Carolina League finals.”

Reinsdorf closed his message with a promise to fans that the organization will take actionable steps to restore trust. “Every loss this season—every blown save, every defensive error—hurt. We understand that it is our responsibility to earn your trust and support again. We owe it to each and every one of you,” he concluded.

The Chicago White Sox are set to report for spring training in February 2025, hoping to turn the tide and rebuild towards success.
