Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal has finally addressed the ACC’s recognition of quarterback Cam Ward after the team’s narrow 38-34 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. The thrilling matchup saw Miami, ranked No. 7, survive a near-upset, thanks in part to Ward’s standout performance, which earned him ACC Quarterback of the Week honors for the second straight week.
In his response, Cristobal expressed pride in his quarterback’s leadership and resilience, emphasizing how Ward’s ability to rise to the occasion was crucial to the team’s success. “Cam’s a competitor through and through,” Cristobal said. “He played a tough game and came through for us when it mattered most. His recognition by the ACC is well-deserved, and it speaks to his preparation, focus, and the trust we have in him as our leader.”
Ward’s performance included 343 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 57 rushing yards, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability. Despite throwing two interceptions, the quarterback’s poise in critical moments—especially during Miami’s late-game comeback—was key in securing the win.
Cristobal acknowledged the game’s controversial ending, where a Virginia Tech Hail Mary was initially ruled a touchdown before being overturned on review. “It was a hard-fought game on both sides.
