Williams, one of the Seahawks’ highest-paid players, suffered an abdominal injury. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, still undefeated in his tenure, provided limited details about the injury, referring to it as a “midsection thing.”
“I’m not sure how serious it is yet,” Macdonald explained during a press conference on September 22, 2024. “It could be the ribs or something in that area. We’ve done some imaging, but we’re still waiting on the results, so we’ll know more in the coming days.”
Murphy, a standout rookie, also left the game with a hamstring injury. Macdonald expressed concern over the young pass rusher, who has already become a key part of the defense.
“Byron strained his hamstring during a double team,” Macdonald said. “We’re not sure of the severity yet, so we’ll be evaluating that this week.”

Williams has been a cornerstone of the Seahawks’ defense since the team acquired him in a midseason trade from the New York Giants in 2023. After hitting free agency this offseason, the Seahawks re-signed him to a three-year, $64.5 million contract, securing his talents long-term.
The full impact of the injuries remains to be seen, and it’s unclear if either Williams or Murphy will miss any playing time. As the Seahawks prepare for their Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, they will enter as 4.5-point underdogs, with these injuries adding to the challenge.
