Texas vs. Louisiana-Monroe: First Quarter Breakdown

First Quarter Recap

With sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., senior left guard Hayden Conner, super senior defensive tackle Alfred Collins, and sophomore wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. serving as captains for Texas, Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) won the coin toss and opted to defer, allowing Texas and quarterback Arch Manning to start the game with possession.

What initially appeared to be an aggressive onside kick by ULM off a Texas player was revealed to be a simple mishap—the ball had fallen off the tee. The Warhawks re-kicked, this time with a high and short kick that Texas junior wide receiver Matthew Golden returned to the 27-yard line.

With Blue starting at running back, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian opened the game with a play-action pass
