Heartfelt News: Pittsburgh Pirates Officially Announce the Departure of Another Veteran Regular Starter Amid  Critical Health Challenges…

The Pittsburgh Pirates have made the difficult announcement that veteran starting pitcher Jake Woodford will be departing the team due to ongoing health challenges. This emotional news has left both fans and the organization concerned, as Woodford has been a steady presence in the rotation.

Woodford, who has faced a series of health-related setbacks, has been a dedicated player for the Pirates, giving his all on the mound. The specifics of his health issues remain private, but the team’s decision reflects the seriousness of the situation.

As the Pirates move forward without one of their regular starters, the organization and its supporters are united in wishing Woodford a swift and full recovery, acknowledging the significant role he’s played during his time with the team. His absence will surely be felt both on and off the field

In tomorrow’s game, Woodford will be facing his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, for the first time. A former first-round pick (39th overall) in the 2015 MLB Draft, Woodford spent the entirety of his previous major league career with the Cardinals. Over four seasons with St. Louis, he pitched 184 2/3 innings, managing a respectable 4.29 ERA. However, after struggling with a 6.23 ERA over 47 2/3 innings in 2022, the Cardinals chose to non-tender him, leading to his departure from the organization.

The Pirates’ 40-man roster is currently full, so the team will need to make a corresponding move to accommodate Woodford’s addition. Since he is out of minor league options, he cannot be sent back down without clearing waivers. While Woodford will finish the season in the majors, it remains uncertain if the Pirates will keep him on the 40-man roster during the offseason.
